Hello AI Enthusiast,

Microsoft just released its biggest 365 update since Copilot.

This is a short version of a longer article. Read the full post at here.

The agent sprawl problem nobody talks about

Most companies think they have a handful of AI agents running in their systems. When they actually count, they find three to five times more than expected, many with access to sensitive data, no clear owner, and no oversight.

It's a bit like managing company laptops before mobile device management existed. You knew people had them. You knew they were connecting to company systems. You had no real way to enforce anything.

That's the situation most organizations are in right now with AI agents.

What Microsoft is doing about it

On May 1, 2026, Microsoft released Agent 365, a control plane that gives IT and security teams one place to see, manage, and protect every agent running in their organization, whether built by Microsoft, internal teams, or third-party vendors.

The core logic is simple: agents can read files, call external APIs, and act on behalf of users. When something is misconfigured or compromised, the damage can be real, and most organizations won't know until it's too late.

What's actually in this release

Agent 365 covers three areas: visibility, governance, and security. There's also new coverage for agents running locally on employee laptops, a multicloud registry that spans AWS and Google, and a dedicated environment for running agents in production.

Separate from Agent 365, agentic capabilities in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are now generally available, with early usage data that's hard to ignore.
