Plus: Google’s new AI assistant and Anthropic’s Prompt Caching

Hello AI Enthusiast,

Google and xAI introduced new AI models, each taking a distinct approach to safeguards. Google is also stepping up, trying to anticipate how we’ll interact with our devices. Meanwhile, Anthropic has introduced a clever feature that could significantly speed up AI responses and cut costs for developers. Let's unpack these developments.

With AI advancing so rapidly, it's crucial to understand how these technologies can benefit your work. If you're curious about applying AI in your professional life, we're hosting a free webinar on August 28th at 6pm CEST. Gianluca Mauro will explain how to integrate AI into your processes, even without a tech background. Plus, you'll get the chance to ask questions.

The Big Picture 🔊

Google and xAI Launch Contrasting AI Image Models

Google and xAI have recently released new AI models. Google's Imagen 3 specializes in creating high-quality images and includes strong safeguards. In contrast, xAI's Grok-2 is a more versatile tool that includes image generation among its capabilities. Due to fewer restrictions, users are employing Grok-2 to produce a wide range of content previously unavailable.

While xAI's CEO Elon Musk has critiqued OpenAI for not being open enough, Grok itself is not open-source. Plus, Grok's integration with X's content through RAG can potentially affect result quality and reliability.

Grok's unrestricted image generation, especially for political content, raises questions as the US elections near.

Google Launches its AI Assistant for Smartphones

Google has unveiled Gemini Live, an AI-powered assistant designed to offer more natural, conversational, and intuitive help for complex tasks. Gemini integrates with Android, supports hands-free use, offers customizable voices, and can assist with tasks like brainstorming job ideas, updating calendars, and drafting emails.

Google's vast ecosystem and datasets give Gemini Live a head start. By releasing on both Android and iOS, Google is trying to get ahead of Apple's AI.

Plus, unlike Apple's strategy of restricting new AI to latest iPhones, Google's plan to support older devices prioritizes widespread adoption over selling new smartphones.

Anthropic Speeds Up with Prompt Caching

Anthropic's new prompt caching feature on their API allows developers to store frequently used context, reducing costs by up to 90% and latency by up to 85% for long prompts. It is available in public beta for Claude 3.5 Sonnet and Claude 3 Haiku.

AI models convert text to vectors, then determine which other vectors (representing words) to use in responses. You might notice a brief pause before an AI answers, that's this process happening.

By caching frequently used instructions from a Meta Prompt, the AI avoids repeating initial work, making responses faster and cheaper.

In our Bootcamp, we teach how to create meta prompts to build tools that work based on user input. Check it out if you want to join our September cohort.
