How We Design Prompts to Gather Insights

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Welcome back to our AI education series!

This edition continues our exploration of practical AI applications. This is how we use AI for better work feedback. 👇

The Problem

When we work, we often benefit from feedback to improve our output, get unstuck, or overcome impostor syndrome. Constructive feedback helps refine our work, boosts our confidence, and keeps us moving forward. Whether you're in marketing, education, or any other field, the right feedback can make a significant difference. We want to show you how to craft prompts that ensure you receive valuable insights and produce high-quality work.

Before we dive into how we use AI for feedback, we'd love to know about your experience:

Have you ever used ChatGPT or other AI models to get feedback on your work?

If you answer 'Yes,' share your experience in the comments after voting!

Tutorial: Crafting Your Feedback Prompt using the AI Academy CIDI Framework

🗣️ Psst… if you want to learn how to use the CIDI framework, we have a free program here.

Receiving valuable feedback can elevate your work and boost your confidence. At AI Academy, we don't have a full-time copywriter, many of us aren't native English speakers, and we're in a crowded market. Ensuring our potential customers truly understand the value of our programs is critical.

Here’s an example of how we might use this approach. We write a lot of marketing copy for our courses, but sometimes it's challenging to know if our message is clear and compelling. By using a well-structured prompt, we can get specific, actionable feedback to improve our content.

Prompt:

Act like a coach expert in marketing.
You work for AI Academy, a company specialized in helping anyone understand AI and use it in their work.

I will give you a headline and tagline we wrote to promote a course. You will give me:
- 3 things the copy does well
- 3 things that could be improved

For each, explain your reasoning. For the improvement areas, provide suggestions on how to improve it.

MY WORK:
GENERATIVE AI PROJECT BOOTCAMP
An immersive, hands-on, online AI training course where you learn to use AI by designing and prototyping your own ChatGPT-powered digital product. Learn how to engineer optimal prompts and translate them into powerful AI-powered projects, without coding.

Results:

The feedback we received was precious and immediately actionable. It highlighted three strengths: targeting the right audience, emphasizing practical application, and making the course accessible for non-coders. The suggestions for improvement included:

  • Making the headline more engaging (e.g., "Unlock AI Innovation: Join the Generative AI Project Bootcamp")

  • Highlighting unique benefits ("Master AI and Create Market-Ready Products Without Coding")

  • Simplifying the tagline, breaking it into shorter, punchier sentences to focus on the most compelling aspects ("Immerse yourself in a hands-on AI training course. Design and prototype your own ChatGPT-powered products. Master prompt engineering and build powerful AI projects – all without coding").

Let’s comment on why this is a good prompt.

First of all, we ask ChatGPT to explain its reasoning - this boosts its performance and gives us better recommendations (there are scientific papers that prove this, like the “show your work” technique).

Also, have you noticed the prompt structure? Having the input codified in that way at the end allows us to easily re-use this prompt. We can simply paste in another piece of copy and get great feedback once again.

Your Turn

This approach can be adapted to various fields and situations. Here are a few examples of how you might use this method:

  1. Education:

    • Get feedback on lesson plans from seasoned teachers to enhance the effectiveness of your teaching materials.

  2. Leadership:

    • Receive constructive insights on your strategic plans from experienced leaders to improve team management and project outcomes.

  3. Email Feedback:

    • Improve your client communication by seeking feedback on emails from professional copywriters, ensuring clarity and professionalism.

Prompt Template:

Act like a coach expert in [your field]. You work for [your company description].

I will give you a [type of work] we created to [purpose of the work]. You will give me:
- 3 things the [work] does well
- 3 things that could be improved

For each, explain your reasoning. For the improvement areas, provide suggestions on how to improve it.

MY WORK: [description of your work]

Using these templates, you can confidently seek feedback tailored to your specific needs, ensuring continuous improvement and enhanced performance in your work. Give it a try and see how it transforms your approach!
