Hello AI Enthusiast,
This is the short version of a longer blog article. You can read the full post here.
Picking a room first
Until September, using Claude for real work meant picking a room first. Quick question, chat. Long multi-step job, Cowork. Visual work, Design. What you started in one did not follow you into the other.
On 16 September, Anthropic merged Cowork and chat into one Claude. The same release added Claude Docs and Claude Slides, and brought Claude Design into conversations.
What changed
Claude no longer asks where a task belongs. Background work and visual work are available from any conversation, using the files, memory, projects, skills and connectors it already has.
What Claude produces now has somewhere to live. Docs and decks are saved in the Artifacts tab, so you can find them again from any conversation.
Nothing was deleted. Your Cowork chats, projects, artifacts, connectors and skills carried over.
The rollout is staged, starting with Pro and Max. If your message box still shows Chat and Cowork as separate options, your account hasn't moved yet.
What you can do with it
Docs: ask for a status report, a spec or a one-page brief, and Claude drafts it from your files and connected apps. Edit it directly, or leave a comment mentioning @Claude and it makes the change.
Slides: ask for a deck and Claude drafts it. Edit the slides yourself, tell Claude what to change, present straight from Claude, or export to PowerPoint or PDF.
Design: describe what you want and Claude builds it on a canvas next to the chat, ready to refine.
