Plus: Google's Nano Banana Pro and Data Residency Expansion

Hello AI Enthusiast,

This past week OpenAI launched a shopping research feature just days before Black Friday, convenient timing for the biggest shopping weekend of the year. Google released Nano Banana Pro, their new image generation model with better text rendering and editing. And OpenAI expanded data residency to 10 regions, making enterprise adoption easier. Let's dive in.

The Big Picture 🔊

ChatGPT Launches Shopping Research Feature

OpenAI has launched "shopping research" in ChatGPT, creating personalized buyer's guides by analyzing products across the internet. Users describe their needs, answer clarifying questions, and receive detailed comparisons within minutes. Powered by a specialized GPT-5 mini model, it's now available to all ChatGPT users through the holidays.

This feels like a natural step for ChatGPT. We're already using AI to customize product searches, asking for gift ideas based on specific preferences or comparing products with detailed pros and cons.

The trust issue is tricky though. OpenAI says results are "organic" while also mentioning merchants can apply for inclusion, which seems contradictory. They'll definitely monetize this eventually through paid placements.

OpenAI Expands Data Residency Options for Business Customers

OpenAI now offers data residency across 10 global regions, allowing business customers using ChatGPT Enterprise, ChatGPT Edu, or its API Platform to store data locally. This helps organizations meet regulatory requirements like GDPR. Available regions include Europe, UK, US, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, India, Australia, and UAE, with more planned.

This was always going to happen. Data residency is non-negotiable for large enterprises - especially in banking, manufacturing, and insurance. If your data can't stay in-country, it's an automatic "no" regardless of how good the AI is.

It's only available for ChatGPT Enterprise customers, which means medium-sized companies using Business plans are left out for now. Though honestly, data residency mostly matters to the big players anyway.

With OpenAI now offering local data storage across 10 regions, the compliance barriers to AI adoption are finally dropping. Our Corporate AI Training helps your teams take full advantage of these tools now that regulatory concerns are being addressed.

Google Launches Nano Banana Pro Image Generator

Google has released Nano Banana Pro (Gemini 3 Pro Image), a new AI image generation model that excels at creating accurate text within images and generating context-rich visuals like infographics and diagrams. Built on Gemini 3 Pro, it can blend up to 14 images while maintaining consistency of 5 people, offers studio-quality controls, and supports multiple languages.

We tested Nano Banana Pro and found it works well for general image generation. The challenge comes when you try making specific edits or steering the image toward exactly what you want. What should be quick adjustments can turn into lengthy and frustrating prompting sessions.

Professionals in fashion and advertising are finding that AI-generated campaigns sometimes take more time than traditional methods because of these steering difficulties.
