These last days Anthropic launched Claude 3.5 Sonnet, their new AI model, Ilya Sutskever, co-founder of OpenAI, introduced his new startup and Apple is delaying the release of certain features in Europe due to EU's regulations.

Anthropic has launched Claude 3.5 Sonnet, which outperforms previous models in intelligence, speed, and cost, and is available on multiple platforms including Anthropic API. Claude 3.5 Sonnet excels in complex tasks, improves visual reasoning, and introduces "Artifacts" for real-time interaction with and editing AI-generated content. Further models in the Claude 3.5 family are expected later this year.

Claude 3.5 Sonnet is faster, produces more human-like output compared to ChatGPT, and really cares about user privacy. The new feature "Artifacts" is impressive; we tested it to replicate a simple website, and it was very close to the original. It's fascinating that they plan to add a collaborative work environment.

OpenAI Co-Founder Launches Safe Superintelligence

Ilya Sutskever, a co-founder of OpenAI, has launched Safe Superintelligence (SSI) with the goal of developing safe superintelligent AI systems. SSI, a for-profit enterprise, focuses exclusively on AI safety and capabilities. In the meantime, OpenAI acquired database tech firm Rockset, and Multi, a startup developing a video-first collaboration platform.

SSI is stepping in to ensure safety and security when Superintelligence arrives, positioning itself as a research-focused company, unlike OpenAI, which is becoming more product-driven.

The acquisitions of Multi and Rockset show they're betting on product development rather than research.

Apple Delays EU Features Over DMA Privacy

Apple announced it would delay the release of certain features in Europe, including the recently announced Apple Intelligence, due to concerns that the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA) might compromise user privacy and data security. The company has previously cited regulatory challenges as reasons for limiting features in the EU.

The DMA aims to enhance interoperability between companies, not privacy. While Apple thinks a closed ecosystem protects privacy, the EU believes this harms competition.

Apple finds the application of the EU’s DMA vague, and wants to avoid further fines after recent penalties, insisting that the EU should clarify its regulations.
